Rodrigo Porras Garulo is back at Oper Frankfurt to repeat his portrayal of Pinkerton in the first revival of our new Madama Butterfly. He started the season off singing Cavaradossi in Tosca at the National Theatre in Prague, which was followed by Mark in concert performances of Ethel Smyth’s The Wreckers in the Berlin Philharmonie, a role he sang at the 2022 Glyndebourne Festival. He recently made his debut at Cologne Opera singing Rodolfo in Luisa Miller and returns to the Staatsoper in Hannover to sing Cavaradossi. He also adds a new role to his repertoire: the Prince in Rusalka at the Baden’s Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. Future engagements include Ruggero (La rondine) at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Guido (A Florentine Tragedy) at Den Norske Opera Oslo and the Prince in the Auditorio de Tenerife. Other highlights have included his debut as Don Carlo at Hessen’s Staatstheater in Wiesbaden and Rodolfo (La Bohème) at the Landestheater in Linz. He made his debut at La Scala Milan in 2019, as the Duke in Rigoletto. He was a member of the Ensemble at the Staatstheater in Meiningen (2010 – 2015) and Baden’s Staatstheater in Karlsruhe (2017 – 2020). Born in Mexico City, he spent the 2020/21 season in the ensemble at the Staatsoper in Hannover, during which his roles included Tristan in Le vin herbé and Don José (Carmen). He has also performed at Oper Leipzig, the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, the Ljubljana Festival, Latvian National Opera, Croatia’s National Theatre in Zagreb, Opéra de Tours and the Staatsoper in Astana. He studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Kammersängerin Helene Schneiderman and took private lessons from Antonio Carangelo. He won the International Antonín Dvořák Competition and was awarded a scholarship by the Richard Wagner Verband in Würzburg.
