The Czech composer and conductor Ondřej Adámek studied composition at the Music Academy in his home town of Prague and then the Paris Conservatoire. Scholarships took him to Kenya, Japan, the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid and Villa Medici in Rome. He went to Berlin 2010 on a DAAD Scholarship, where he now lives. His musical language combines contemporary classical music with transformed musical elements from cultures in other countries (including Bali, New Caledonia, Japan and Andalusia). The simplicity of his expression correlates with the ornate tonal world of his works. Chamber Nôise I emerged as a  duo f0r cello and double bass from the foundations of his 2009 first performed Nôise for orchestra. The score of Karakuri – Poupée mécanique for soprano and orchestra (based on his own French texts) contains gestural elements, reflecting the composer's interest in new forms between theatre and concert hall. »Karakuri« refers to human-like Japanese manikins created during the Edo period. Adámek has worked with leading orchestras, choirs and ensembles and has been commissioned to write many works. He founded his own ensemble: N.E.S.E.V.E.N in 2019, for which he regularly composes. Constantly interested in new ways of expression and sound colours Ondřej Adámek also has his own installation music instrument »Airmachine«.
