She was born in Vienna and studied at Michelbeuern Fashion College, taking part in masterclasses at the Fashion School Herbststraße in Vienna and Wimbledon College of Arts in London before assisting the head of costumes at the Tirol Festival in Erl. She then had many invitations to work as a costume assistant at the State Opera, Volksoper and Kammeroper in Vienna. Anna-Sophie Lienbacher has been working as a free-lance costume designer since 2016, at places including Musical Summer Bad Leonfelden, the Anton Bruckner University, the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna and the jOPERA festival Summer Jennersdorf, where she has worked on shows including Alcina, My fair Lady, Hello Dolly, Werther, Il tabarro, Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Die Zauberflöte. Anna-Sophie Lienbacher was also responsible for costumes in the world premiere of Iris ter Schiphorst’s Das Imaginäre nach Lacan and an historical exhibition at Castle Tabor in Jennersdorf. She worked for jOPERA on Rossini‘s Der Barbier von Sevilla (2018), Brigitte Fassbaender‘s production of Martha (2019) and Joachim Raff’s Dame Kobold at the Stadttheater in Regensburg, designed costumes for Panta Rhei at Klangwolke in 2021, directed by Robert Dornhelm, Dai Fujikura’s Solaris at new Oper Wien, directed by Helen Malkowsky, Wiener Blut / Viennese Blood at Herbst(autumn)tagen in Blindenmarkt and Die lustige Witwe/The Merry Widow for jOPERA. Last spring she was involved in the first performances in Europe of Tod Machover’s Schoenberg in Hollywood directed by Helen Malkowsky at the Volksoper in Vienna. Now she's back at Oper Frankfurt, where she designed the costumes for last's season's wonderful Fassbaender production of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, for the world premiere of Vito Žuraj's Blühen in the Bockenheimer Depot.
