The British bass Thomas Faulkner joined the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2016/17 after time spent in the opera studio, adding several important roles to his repertoire including John Claggart in Billy Budd, Alidoro in La Cenerentola, Elviro in Xerxes, Lodovico in Verdi's Otello, Don Diego in Meyerbeer's L’Africaine (get the CD!), Zuniga in Carmen and Elmiro in Rossini's Otello. Roles during the 2024/25 season include Dr Krautmann in a new production of Dittersdorf's Doctor and Pharmacist, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Pazjuk in Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve (»Performance of the Year 2022 (Opernwelt)« get the DVD!) and Bartolo in our new Le nozze di Figaro. Roles in Frankfurt in recent seasons have included a Monk in Don Carlo, Cirillo in Fedora, 1st Nazarene in Salome, Osmin in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Fritz Kothner in a new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Dr. Vigelius in Schreker's The Elusive Sound and the Priest / Badger in The Cunning Little Vixen. Guest engagements have included Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Hamburg State Opera and Masetto (Don Giovanni) at Covent Garden in London and, this season, he makes his house debut at the Opéra de Lyon singing the Doctor (role debut) in Wozzeck, and Swallow in a Christof Loy production of Peter Grimes. He recently sang Schumann's Genoveva (in concert) with the Cologne Philharmonie under Jérémie Rhorer, the Watersprite and Fasolt in new productions of Rusalka and Das Rheingold at the Tirol Festival in Erl and, last season, Julio in Adès' Exterminating Angel directed by Calixto Bieito at the Opéra national de Paris, and Fasolt in Das Rheingold at Theater Basel. He made his debut at the Theater an der Wien as Swallow (Peter Grimes) and sang Masetto (Don Giovanni) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysée in Paris. This British historian's artistic achievements have won him many accolades and a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Verband.
