British bass Thomas Faulkner joined Oper Frankfurt's ensemble in 2016/17 from the opera studio, since when roles have included John Claggart in Billy Budd, Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Elviro (Xerxes), Lodovico (Verdi's Otello), Don Diego (Meyerbeer's L’Africaine (get the CD!), Elmiro (Rossini's Otello) and Betto di Signa (Gianni Schicchi). During the 2026/27 season you can hear him as Allan / A Knight and Tschelio in new productions of Chausson's Le roi Arthus and Prokofiev's Love of Three Oranges, the King of Egypt (role debut) in Aida, Fasolt in Das Rheingold and he repeats his portrayals of Pazjuk and Timur in Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve (»Performance of the Year 2022 Opernwelt)« - get the DVD! and Puccini's Turandot. Last season he enjoyed great success singing Swallow in Peter Grimes, Rangoni, Latino & Timur in new productions of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, Steffani's Amor vien dal destino and Turandot, Zuniga in Carmen, Banquo in Macbeth and the Farmer (role debut) in Orff's Clever Woman. These were preceded by Dr Krautmann in Dittersdorf's Doctor and Pharmacist, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Bartolo in a new Le nozze di Figaro and he was a wonderful Night Watchman / Master of Masquerades in Nielsen's Masquerade. Other roles for the company included a Monk in Don Carlo, Cirillo in Fedora, 1st Nazarene in Salome, Fritz Kothner in a new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Dr. Vigelius in Schreker's Elusive Sound and the Priest / Badger in The Cunning Little Vixen. Recent guest engagements included Osmin at the Hamburg State Opera, Masetto (Don Giovanni) at Covent Garden in London and theThéâtre des Champs-Élysée in Paris. He made his debut at the Opéra de Lyon singing the Doctor (role debut) in Wozzeck, returning for Swallow in a Christof Loy production of Peter Grimes, a role he sang at the Theater an der Wien. He sang in Schumann's Genoveva (in concert) with the Cologne Philharmonie under Jérémie Rhorer, the Waterspite and Fasolt in new productions of Rusalka and Das Rheingold at the Tirol Festival in Erl, Julio in Adès Exterminating Angel directed by Calixto Bieito at the Opéra national de Paris and Fasolt in Das Rheingold at Theater Basel. This British historian's artistic achievements have won him many accolades and a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Verband.
