The Norwegian baritone Yngve Søberg is jumping in at very short notice to sing the title role in Rigoletto this evening, a role he has sung at places including the Teatro di Felice in Florence (under Fabio Luisi), the Bregenz Festival and Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, where he appears regularly in leading roles such as Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Marcello (La Bohème), Escamillo (Carmen), the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Lorenzo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Tonio (I Pagliacci) and Germont (La Traviata). Other recent engagements have include the Herald (Lohengrin) at Zurich Opera, Alfio and Tonio at Graz Opera, Angelotti (Tosca) at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Amonasro (Aida), Silvio (I Pagliacci) and Marcello at Oscarsborg Opera. He can be heard again soon as Rigoletto, at the Staastoper in Hannover. Yngve Søberg is much in demand for concert work and was recently heard in Fauré's Requiem with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Orff's Carmina Burana with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. He appears regularly with leading orchestras in Scandinavia with conductors including Oleg Caetani, Jonathan Darlington, Stefan Klingele, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Jun Märkl and Marc Soustrot. His artistic achievements have been rewarded with, amongst others, the Ruud Wallenberg and Tom Wilhelmsen awards.
