The Mexican-Spanish tenor Abraham Bretón joined the Opera Studio in 2023 - during which he sang Yamadori in Madama Butterfly and Pasek inThe Cunning Little Vixen. During the 2023/24 season you can hear him singing four roles for the first time: 1st Armed Man, Don José & Lucio / A Godolier in Die Zauberflöte, Carmen & Rossini's Otello and Count Gloria Cassis in a new production of Offenbach's The Bandits. During the 2013/14 season roles included his first Nemorinos (L’elisir d’amore) and Alfredos (La traviata) in his home town of Puebla in Mexico. He then joined the »Oberlin in Italy« summer programme with the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz. After graduating from the Escuela Nacional de Música in Mexico he went to the United States in 2016 to further his vocal studies and was a member of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia until 2020. Abraham Bretón took part in the 2018 Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Programme, during which he sang in Bernstein's Candide and the Duke in Rigoletto. He returned to Graz in 2019 for wonderful Zarzuela performances and sang in Verdi's Requiem in the Carnegie Hall in March 2023.
