Laura Aikin

Soprano

The American soprano Laura Aikin began her career at the Staatsoper in Berlin, where she was a member of the ensemble from 1992 – 1998 and has sung at many leading opera houses througout Europe and in America. Roles at the Salzburg Festival have included Mozart's Queen of the Night. Blonde and Konstanze, Badi’at in the world premiere of Henze's L’Upupa, an extremely highly praised Marie in Zimmermann's Die Soldaten (2012) and Morgan le Fay in Birtwistle's Gawain (2013). Highlights during the 2015/16 season were Emilia Marty in The Makropoulos Case at the Vienna State Opera and Aithtra in Strauss' Die ägyptische Helena/The Egyptian Helen) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She recently sang Feldman's Neither at the Ruhr Triennale and the Staatsoper in Berlin, where she also sang one of the roles central to her repertoire, Konstanze, again. Other recent engagements have included Marie at La Scala Milan, Marguerite de Valois (Les Huguenots) in Strasbourg, her first Lucia di Lammermoor in Montpellier, Lulu in Paris and in Peter Stein's production in Lyon, Milan and Vienna, Rossini's Semiramide in Naples, Marilyn Monroe in the world premiere of Robin de Raaff's Waiting for Miss Monroe at the Nationale Opera Amsterdam and Guinia (Lucio Silla) at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
