Hubert Schmid is singing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, in the world premiere of Vito Žuraj’s Blühen in the Bockenheimer Depot. He studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatoire and Bayerische Theaterakademie in Munich and took part in masterclasses held by people including Franzisco Araiza, Inge Borkh and Regina Resnik. After appearances at the Bayerische Staatsoper he was engaged to sing on tour in Italy (at places including the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and La Scala Milan), France, Spain and Switzerland. He has worked with conductors including Lorin Maazel, Peter Maag, Ivor Bolton, Roberto Abbado and directors including August Everding, David Alden and George Tabori. He was a member of Die Jungen Tenöre / The Young Tenors for many years, with whom he made recordings and took part in programmes for television and on tour. His operatic repertoire includes Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don José (Carmen) and Florestan (Fidelio). His wide and varied repertoire means that he is much sought-after by festivals, for operetta and oratorio. He has appeared in recital at the Richard Strauss Tagen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and on recordings by the Bayerische Rundfunk and Deutschland Radio.
