Martin Lauer was born in Offenbach am Main in 1956 and studied violin with K.A. Herrmann, viola with Hans Stegmüller and Serge Collot and composition with Jürgen Weimer at Frankfurt am Main and Trossingen universities. He was solo viola with the Hofer Symphony from 1985 - 1986, a member of the Staatsorchester in Hannover from 1986 - 2000 and has been deputy first viola at the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester since 2001. He was a member of the Bachkollegium in Stuttgart from 1983 – 1993 and played with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra from 1998 - 2005. Chamber music concerts with the Ensemble Tedesco, Ensemble Musica Viva and Trio 27´ have been incredibly important to him.
