John Osborn's back in Frankfurt to sing the title role in Massenet's Werther, a role he sang for the first time in Frankfurt in 2014. He returned to the company for his first Arturos in a new production of Bellini's I puritani, then Éléazar (a role he sang for the first time at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, after singing Léopold in the same opera at places including the Opéra in Paris) in a new production of Halévy's La Juive, and in recital. Roles this season include the title role in Berlioz`Benvenuto Cellini at La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels and, during coming months, he can be heard singing Jean de Leyde (Le prophète) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Arturo at the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Duke (Rigoletto) at the Opéra de Marseille. This American tenor enjoys great success with belcanto roles at leading opera houses around the world, including Arnold in Rossini's Guillaume Tell at Covent Garden, the Teater an der Wien, the Met in New York, the Nationale Opera in Amsterdam and the Carnegie Hall, Donizetti's Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rossini's Otello and Bellini's Pollione (Norma), Nadir Les pêcheurs de perles, the title role in The Tales of Hoffmann, Gounod's Faust and daunting roles such as Raoul in Les Huguenots and Henri de Montfort in Verdi's Les vêpres siciliennes. He began his career as a member of the Metropolitan Opera's Young Artist’s Development Program. His impressive discography (CD and DVDs) includes Rossini's Otello and Norma, with Cecilia Bartoli, Guillaume Tell under Antonio Pappano, Benvenuto Cellini under Sir Mark Elder and a solo album: A Tribute to Gilbert Duprez. A recording of Donizetti's La fille du régiment with John Osborn as Toni, was awarded the 2022 Premio Franco Abbiati – an award he received for his interpretations of the title role in Meyerbeer's Robert le diable and Fernand in Donizetti's La favorite.
