Since Michael Porter left the studio to join Oper Frankfurt's ensemble he's been thrilling audiences with roles including Mozart's Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte). He opened the 2025/26 season repeating his wonderful portrayal of Ken in Vito Žuraj's Blossoming (»World Premiere of the Year 2023« Opernwelt) in the Bockenheimer Depot, which was followed by Enea, Pong & Tempo in new productions of Steffani's Amor vien dal destino, Puccini's Turandot & Handel's Triumph of Time and Enlightenment, and Falsacappa (role debut) in Offenbach's The Bandits. During the 2026/27 season you can hear him again as Pong in Turandot & Oronte in Alcina, as Gomatz and Yannakos in new productions of Mozart's Zaide and Martinů's The Greek Passion, and Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser. Other recent roles for the company included Hyllus in Kosky's Hercules, the Prince / Valet, Gotthold & Oronte in new productions of Berg's Lulu, Dittersdorf's Doctor and Pharmacist & Handel's Alcina and Leander in Tobias Kratzer's production of Nielsen's Masquerade. He sang Lysander in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream here and at the Opéra de Lausanne and Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. Recent engagements have taken him to places including the Salzburg Festival, where he sings Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos in 2026, the Semperoper in Dresden, Staatsoper in Berlin and the Munich Opera Festival. He appeared in recital here in 2019 and enjoyed great success with other roles in Frankfurt including Narraboth (Salome), Cassio (Otello), Züngl (a new Zemlinsky's George the Dreamer), David in a new production of Meistersinger, Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Remendado (Carmen), the Steuermann (Flying Dutchman), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Andres in Wozzeck, a role he sang in Monte Carlo and he recently went to Des Moines Metro Opera, for Truffaldino in The Love for three Oranges. His repertoire includes The Novice (Billy Budd), Mosè (ll serpente di bronzo), Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos), Helenus / Hylas (Les Troyens), Gaston / a Guard Krenek's Heavyweight or the Glory of the Nation / The Secret Kingdom), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut) and a Young Sailor (Tristan und Isolde). He made his debut in Fort Worth as Brighella and sang Ernesto (Don Pasquale) at the Staatstheater in Oldenburg (2020/21). Michael Porter was a member of the Opera Theatre St. Louis and Seagle Music Colony's Young Artist programs.
