Annette Schönmüller

Annette Schönmüller is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she made her debut as a Siren in the 2014 world premiere of Rolf Rihm's Sirens and jumped in at short notice to sing Circe & Melantho in a performance of Dallapiccola's Ulisse, to sing the Kurfürstin in this new production of Henze's The Prince of Homburg. She enjoyed a triumph with the Woman (role debut) in Luigi Nono's Intolleranza at Oper Wuppertal in 2021 which was preceded by Fabián Panisello's monodrama Les Rois Mages at the New Opera in Vienna. Other recent engagements have taken her to places including the Theater an der Wien (for Peter Maxwell Davies' The Medium), Zurich Opera Zürich, the Komische Oper Berlin, Staatstheater in Darmstadt, Oper Wuppertal, the Munich Biennale, the Konzerhaus in Berlin and Vienna, the Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wien Modern and Biennale Salzburg festivals and the Neue Oper in Vienna. She made her debut at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart in 2023/24 in Die Frau ohne Schatten and enjoyed great success with Ophelia in Wolfgang Rihm's Die Hamletmaschine at the Staatstheater in Kassel. At Zurich Opera, between 2017 and 2019, she took part in productions including Heinz Holliger's Lunea - »World Premiere of the Year 2018« (Opernwelt) (the CD of which won an »Opus Klassik« and International Classical Music Award in 2023). Her discography includes the opera Paradise reloaded (Lilith) - Peter Eötvös wrote the lead role for her voice.
