The South-Korean bass Dong-Hyub Hong, appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, singing the Notary in Gianni Schicchi, achieved his bachelor at Seoul’s Hanyang University in 2011 and his masters at the HfMDK Frankfurt am Main in 2016, where he is studying for further exams. He was awarded a scholarship by DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service, from 2015-2016. Roles he sang in Seoul included Leporello (Don Giovanni), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) and Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors). He sang Simone (Gianni Schicchi) at university in Frankfurt, Bartolo / Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Youth Oper at Castle Weikersheim, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at the Burg Festival in Bad Vilbel and his first Silvanos in a new production of Cavalli’s La Calisto at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in 2016. He won prizes at the 2015 International »Feruccio Tagliavini« Competition in Austria and 2022 International »Jacques Offenbach Grand Prix« Competition in Bad Ems and joined the chorus at Oper Frankfurt in 2016.
