Nadja Stefanoff was born in Chemnitz and studied at the University for Music and the Staatsoper in Dresden. She joined the ensemble at the Staatstheater Mainz in 2014, where she thrills audiences with roles including Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Norma, Adriana Lecouvreur, Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Katja Kabanova, Armide, Agathe (Der Freischütz) and Cherubini's Medée. Other recent engagements have included Sieglinde (Die Walküre) at the Staatstheater in Kassel, Marietta (Korngold's Die tote Stadt / The Dead City) in Helsinki and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and Marta (Weinberg's The (female) Passenger) at Oper Graz and Tirol's Landestheater in Innsbruck. Before changing fach she enjoyed great success with many trouser roles, including Idamante in Idomeneo and Octavian in Rosenkavalier, and other lead ladies including Adalgisa (Norma), Bianca (A Florentine Tragedy) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). Earlier on in her career she spent time under contract to Theater Erfurt, Theater Bremen and the Staatstheaters in Braunschweig and Mainz. She has also appeared at Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Komische Oper in Berlin, the Staatsoperette in Dresden, Staatstheater in Kassel, Oper Bonn, the Gärtnerplatz Theater in Munich and Oper Graz. You can hear her on CDs made with Dresden's Staatsoperetta orchestra and the NDR Radio Philharmonic.
