This French pianist is a professor, nurturing young singers' repertoires, at the University of Arts in Berlin. She was invited by Philippe Jordan to take up the post of head coach at the Vienna State Opera from the beginning of the 2020/21 season; a position she held at the Salzburg Festival from 2012-2016. Her passion for working with singers has led to being appointed coach at the Komische Oper Berlin and Zurich Operahaus and working as a guest at theatres including the Opéra national de Paris, Theater an der Wien and the Bayreuth Festival. She played the piano in public for the first time at the age of 11, at places including the Salle Gaveau in Paris. She studied piano, chamber music and accompaniment at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and accompaniment at the University for Music in Karlsruhe and University for Music and Theatre in Hamburg. Sarah Tysman is a much sought-after chamber musician and appears regularly in recital with singers including Anna Prohaska, Angelika Kirchschlager, Piotr Beczala, Benjamin Bernheim, Michael Volle, Rufus Wainwright and the cellist Steven Isserlis; she has performed at venues including the Vienna State Opera, the Palais Garnier in Paris, La Scala Milan, the Wigmore Hall in London, Prussia Cove Chamber Music Festival, the Verbier Festival, in the Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Tonhalle in Zürich and, most recently, as part of a tour, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. Concert work has included Grieg's piano concerto and Scrabin's Prometheus under Kirill Petrenko. She made her debut at Oper Frankfurt in January 2020 with Maria Bengtsson, with whom she has worked closely for many years, and now they are back to thrill you in the first concert at Oper Frankfurt since the theatre was shut.
