Samantha Gaul is a member of the Ensemble at Theater Freiburg, where roles have included Adele (Die Fledermaus), Musetta (La Bohème), Olympia (Hoffmanns Erzählungen / The Tales of Hoffmann) and the title role in the first performances in Germany of Mark Anthony Turnage's Coraline.  This season this young soprano sings two new roles there: Zerlina, in Don Giovanni and Yniold, in Pelléas et Mélisande.  She will also be appearing at Theater Basel and the Staatstheater in Augsburg, where she has sung Sophie Scholl (Zimmermann's Weiße Rose / White Rose), the title role in Hartmann's Simplicius Simplicissimus, Serpetta (La finta giardiniera) and Adina (L’elisir d’amore). Future plans include her debuts at the Schwetzingen Festival, Rheingau Music Festival and Weilburger Schloss concerts. While studying with Hedwig Fassbender at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Frankfurt she sang at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt, Theater Gießen and the Münchener Biennale for Contemporary Opera. This award winning artist currently studies wit Cristiane Iven at the University for Music and Theatre in Munich. Samantha Gaul, nominated in Opernwelt magazine as up and coming artist of the year 2018, is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time.
