James Creswell is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he jumped in at short notice to sing Sarastro at Oper Frankfurt in 2006/07 and returned for Rocco (Fidelio), to sing Oroveso in the first revival of Christof Loy's thrilling production of Norma. He was a member of the ensemble at the Komische Oper Berlin from 2004 – 2008, where roles included Sarastro, Thoas (Orest), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Crespel (Les contes d’Hoffmann) and Gremin (Eugene Onegin). Now freelance, recent engagements have included the Village Judge (Jenůfa), Masetto (Don Giovanni) and Titurel (Parsifal) at Los Angeles Opera, where he started his career as a member of their Young Artists Programme, Sarastro, the title role in Der fliegende Holländer / The Flying Dutchman and Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino) at English National Opera, Méphistophélès (Gounod's Faust), Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and Oroveso at Opera North,and King Marke (Tristan und Isolde in Bremen. Recent concert work has included the Bach passions, Brahms' German Requiem and Mahler's Gurrelieder. Next season he goes to San Francisco Opera for Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro and Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette).
