Axel Bauni is equally known and respected for his many Lieder projects as he is as an accompanist. He has appeared in venues all over the world with artists including Claudia Barainsky, Stella Doufexis, Mojca Erdmann, Michaela Kaune, Christine Schäfer, Doris Soffel, Iris Vermillion, Dietrich Henschel, Christoph Prégardien and Thomas Quasthoff. Many recordings for radio and CDs document his versatile artistic work, especially the »edition contemporary song« (ORFEO International) series. His other proejcts have included Lied:Strahl in the Deutsche Pavillon at EXPO 2000 in Hannover, a series of 20th century Lieder concerts at the 2000 Cologne Musiktriennale and he wrote new texts for Robert Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben as part of Berlin Poesie(poetry)festivals Berlin. He has been running the Lieder Werkstatt (workshop) at the Kissingen Summer Festival since 2004. Axel Bauni has written many articles and pieces for concert programmes and was a co-author in Reclams Liedführer (guide to Lieder) which was republished in 2008. He was co-editor of Ullmann's Sämtlichen Liedern for Schotts (Deutsche Musikeditionspreis 2005) and Paul Dessau's Liedern aus dem Nachlass for Peters. Axel Bauni studied at the University of Arts in Berlin, with people including Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann, with whom he continues to work intensely. He is especially passionate about contemporary music and world premiere of works by composers including Henze, Reimann, Rihm, von Bose and Pintscher. After time spent teaching at home and abroad he was made Professor and leader of interepretations classes for contemporary Lieder at the University of Arts in Berlin in 2003. He founded the Berlin Liedforum in 2004 and was co-initiator of the Deutsche Lied Academy in 2009.
