Dennis Russell Davies took up the posts of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Philharmonie in Brno this season. He built up an impressive and broad repertoire during his years working as a conductor, pianist and chamber musician, with composers including Laurie Anderson, Luciano Berio, William Bolcom, John Cage, Aaron Copland, Philip Glass, Hans Werner Henze, Kurt Schwertsik, Manfred Trojahn and Heinz Winbeck. After working as chief conductor of various orchestras in America he began working in Europe in 1980, where posts included being General Music Director of the Staatstheater in Stuttgart, the Beethovenhalle Orchestra, the International Beethoven Festival and Oper Bonn. He then became Chief Conductor of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and, from 2002 – 2017, the Bruckner Orchestra and Opera in Linz and, from 2009 – 2016, Chief Conductor of the Basel Symphony Orchestra. Dennis Russell Davies has also conducted at the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals and many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras, the San Francisco and Boston symphony orchestras, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Gewandhaus Orchester in Leipzig and the Munich Philharmonic. He is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, conducting this new production of Eötvös' Tri sestry / Three Sisters .
