Wolfgang Göbbel

Lighting Designer

Wolfgang Göbbel has lit many plays and operas at leading theatres and festivals around the world. In 1997 he was nominated for an Lawrence Olivier Award for „Outstanding Achievement in Opera"  (best lighting design Tristan und Isolde at English National Opera and Midsummer Marriage at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London). He has held the title of "4th Knight of Illumination" since 2011. Productions in Frankfurt included Samson and Dalida and Macbeth. Wolfgang Göbbel has also worked as a professor of lighting design. Recent productions have included Un ballo in maschera, La Bohème and Aida on the Seebühne (stage build over the lake) in Bregenz, Katja Kabanowa and Jenůfa in Glynebourne, Ariodante and Tristan und Isolde at English National Opera and Rheingold and Accatone at the 2015 Ruhr Triennale.
