Michael König

Tenor

The tenor Michael König is one of the most sought after singers in his fach and a regular guest at Oper Frankfurt, where he recently sang The Tenor / Bacchus in a new production of Ariadne auf Naxos (available on CD – OehmsClassics). Since making his debut in Frankfurt in 1999, as Narraboth in Salome, roles for the company have included Lohengrin, Kavalier (Cardillac), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Boris (Katja Kabanowa), the Kaiser (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and Florestan (Fidelio). Recent engagements have included Erik (Der fliegende Holländer / The Flying Dutchman) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Florestan in Madrid and Stuttgart and Max (Der Freischütz) at the Semperoper in Dresden, under Christian Thielemann. Engagements later this season include Florestan at the Theater an der Wien and Janáček's Glagolitic Mass in Madrid. He studied with Rudolf Piernay in Mannheim. Other theatres when he has appeared have included the Berlin and Hamburg state operas, the Opéra National in Paris, Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Zurich Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Bayreuth, where he has worked with Vladimir Jurowski, Daniele Gatti, Seiji Ozawa, Hartmut Haenchen, Kent Nagano and Sebastian Weigle.
