The Mexican tenor Brayan Avila Martinez graduated from the Accademia Teatro alla Scala (2020-2022) and reached the semi-finals of the international Neue Stimmen competition. He has performed in operas including Donizetti's Rita (Beppe), Verdi's La traviata (Alfredo), Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia (Almaviva), Puccini's Gianni Schicchi (Rinuccio) and Bizet's Carmen (Don José and Remendado). He also sang Giuseppe in La traviata under Zubin Mehta and Master of Ceremonies in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame under Valery Gergiev and Timur Zangiev at La Scala Milan. Under the auspices of Progetto Accademia he sang Paolino in Cimarosas Il matrimonio segreto under Ottavio Dantone. He also took part in masterclasses held by singers including Marcelo Alvarez, Barbara Frittoli, Gregory Kunde and Pietro Spagnoli and the renowned pianist Helmut Deutsch. He won 3rd prize at the Laguna Magica in San Pedro de la Paz's Opera Festival's 2018 international competition in Chile. He has performed in works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Orff in venues including the Teatro Municipal de Santiago in Chile, Quinta Vergara Amphitheater, Teatro Universidad de Chile, Teatro del Lago in Chile, and the Bío Bío Regional Theater. Roles central to his repertoire include Ernesto, which he sings in Frankfurt in this production of Don Pasquale, the Duke of  Mantua (Rigoletto), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Alfredo (La traviata) and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor). He appeared recently at the Teatro alla Scala as Tebaldo (Vespri Siciliani) under Hugo de Ana and Fabio Luigi, and theTicino Musica Festival in Lugano, singing Paolino (Il matrimonio segreto). Later this season you can hear him singing Ernesto again, at Estonian National Opera in Tallin.
