This season Nikolai Petersen, a Kapellmeister at Oper Frankfurt, conducts performances of Carmen and Don Giovanni.  In 2018/19 he enjoyed great success with Menotti's The Medium, and co-conducting Eötvös’ Tri sestry / Three Sisters - both new productions.  He also conducted a new production of Britten's Paul Bunyan, Eotvos' Der goldene Drachen / The Golden Dragon, the first ever performances in Frankfurt of three one act operas by Bohuslav Martinů, a new double bill of Schönberg's Pierrot lunaire & Michael Langemann's Anna Toll (world premiere, commissioned by Oper Frankfurt) and performances of Oedipus Rex / Iolanta, Hänsel und Gretel, Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Eugene Onegin and Così van tutte. In February 2016 he conducted the world premiere of Manuel Durão's Minibar at the Hamburg State Opera's Opera Stabile. Other projects in recent seasons have included concerts with the Ensemble Modern, the Lautten Compagney Berlin, Thüringer Symphoniker in Saalfeld-Rudolfstadt, the Jenaer Philharmonie and the Nordböhmische Philharmonie Teplice and he has coached the MDR radio chorus and at the Theater Gera-Altenburg, the Stadttheater in Fürth and Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. After completing his studies in Weimar Nikolai Petersen joined the Youth Ensemble at the Semperoper in Dresden. He received scholarships from the Deutsche Bank Stiftung's  »Akademie Musiktheater heute« and the Richard-Wagner-Verband.
