The Russian-Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniušas was born in Moscow in 1990 and graduated from the Conservatoire there in 2008. He has won many important prizes, including a silver medal at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition and the 2010 International Chopin Competition. Praised in the Guardian for his »intensity and maturity« he has appeared at leading venues around the world including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Auditorium du Louvre in Paris and festivals including the Gilmore Piano Festival, the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron and Rheingau Musik Festival. Lukas Geniušas had also appeared in concert with orchestras including the NHK Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Kremerata Baltica with conductors including Leonard Slatkin, Charles Dutoit and Andrey Boreyko. Recent highlights have included appearances with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Maxim Emelyanychev, a tour with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra and Kristiina Poska and a concert at the Festival La folle journee in Nantes. Lukas Geniušasm, known for his inquisitiveness and the extraordinary scope of his repertoire, which ranges from barock to the present day, loves re-discovering previously unknown composers, testified to by his fascinating discography which includes names like Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel, Leonid Desjadnikow, Valery Arzoumanov and Vladimir Ryabov. His recording of Prokofiev piano sonatas won the 2019 Choc de Classica and a Diapason d’Or de l’annee as Solo-CD of the year.
