The British conductor Geoffrey Paterson, much in demand since winning the 2009 Leeds Conductors‘ Competition, is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt with this new production of Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream. His repertoire is wide and varied with and he’s equally passionate about late-19th and 20th century and contemporary music, working closely with composers including the late Harrison Birtwistle and Marius Neset, whose works he has conducted in places including London, Brussels and Basel, the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway and Kempten Jazz Festival in Germany. He also conducted the world premiere of Maxwell Davies’ The Birds, Willem Jeth’s Ritratto in Amsterdam and George Benjamin’s Into the Little Hill at the Hamburg State Opera. He studied the violin and composition and was a member of Covent Garden’s Jette Parker Programme, under whose auspices he conducted Benjamin Britten’s Death in Venice. He has appeared with many leading orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and London Sinfonietta, is a regular guest in Denmark, Norway and Germany and will make his debut with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan this year.
