Giuliano Carella was born in Milan and works at many of the world’s leading opera houses. Now he's back in Frankfurt, where he conducted Stiffelio, I vespri siciliani, Anna Bolena (in concert), La Traviata, Norma and a new Rossini’s Bianca e Falliero for this new production of Rossini's Tancredi. He's a regular guest at the state operas in Vienna, Stuttgart, Dresden, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin and in Toulouse, Strasbourg, Amsterdam, Bologna, Brussels, Paris, Monte Carlo, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Venice, Barcelona, Lisbon, The Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago and the Bel Canto Festival in Dordrecht. At Cologne Opera he conducted, amongst others, Un ballo in maschera, Lucia di Lammermoor and, most recently Ernani (in concert). His repertoire, ranging from Giovanni Paisiello to Lorenzo Ferrero, includes all the major works and lots of less well-known Italian operas. He's been leading the »I Solisti Veneti« chamber orchestra since 2019, was General Music Director of the Arena di Verona from 1998 - 2003 and held the same position at the Opéra de Toulon until 2017. He also enjoys a busy concert career, working with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Staatskapelle, RAI Torino Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and Bavarian Radio Orchestra. His recordings of Bel Canto works have won many prizes. He studied composition at the Cesare Pollini Conservatoire in Padua and conducting at the »Giuseppe Verdi« conservatoire in Milan and with Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Chigiana di Siena, where he was awarded an honorary degree.
