Happy New Ears

The „Happy New Ears” series continues after all, with a new partner: the University of Music and the Performing Artst in Frankfurt, where two of the annual four workshop concerts will take place, starting on November 18 with the 170th since the series, whose title comes John Cage, brought to life by Oper Frankfurt and the Ensemble Modern began in 1993.

PORTRAIT OF BRIAN FERNEYHOUGH

The British composer Brian Ferneyhough was born in Coventry in 1943. His career brought him to Germany in the 1970s, where he worked assisting his teacher Klaus Huber before becoming a professor at the University for Music in Freiburg. He has been teaching in the USA since 1987, in San Diego before moving to Stanford University in 2000. He was awarded the 2007 Ernst von Siemens Music Prize – the so-called „Music Nobel Prize“ – reflecting the high respect in which Ferneyhough is regarded, and his highly complex compositions. Now you have the chance to hear his early work - Variations on a theme from Roberto Gerhard's 3rd symphony (1965) and recently composed Contraccolpi.
