The English conductor Alexander Soddy's programmed Norway's beloved composer with two works from his home country for his first Museums concerts. It opens with a discovery: the English pianist and composer Dorothy Gertrude Howell's successful symphonic poem Lamia, which has featured regularly at the BBC Proms since it was first performed in 1919.

Grieg moved to Leipzig when he was 15, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Robert Schumann. He wrote this wonderful piano concerto, a homage to Schumann, ten years later. Then comes Elgar's rarely performed Symphony Nr 1  - hailed by the Daily Mail as »Musical Event of the Year« after the world premiere in 1908 and a masterpiece of musical architecture.
