Award winning British lighting designer John Bishop has worked on around 200 plays, operas and ballets around the world. Now he’s back at Oper Frankfurt, where he worked for the first time on Hänsel und Gretel, which was followed by a Kurt Weill / Carl Orff double bill, which returns later in the season! for this new production of Boris Godunov -all directed by Keith Warner. Their many productions elsewhere have included  Doctor Faust and The Great Gatsby at the Semperoper in Dresden, Der Besuch der alten Dame  / An Old Lady pays a Visit at the Theater an der Wien, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Vienna State Opera, Le nozze di Figaro an Teatr Wielki  in Warsaw, Jenůfa at Den Norske Opera Oslo, Tannhäuser at Nikikai Opera in Tokyo, Elektra at San Francisco Opera, the National Theatre in Prague and Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Tannhäuser and Le Roi Arthus at the Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, Tristan und Isolde at the National Theatre in Prague, Tippet’s New Year for Birmingham City Opera, Icarus and Sondheim's Passion at the Festival Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte Montepulciano, the world premiere of Hans Gefor's Notorious at Göteborg Opera. Recent projects included Der fliegende Holländer and Ring des Nibelungen at Den Norske Opera Oslo, La traviata, West Side Story and A Song of Streets at Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, Peter Grimes at the Teatro Lirico Nacionale Madrid, Die Zauberflöte at the Palau de les Artes Reina Sofia in Valencia, Demones in Athens, Carmen at the Teatro Regio Torino, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Die Liebe der Danae at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Simon Boccanegra at the  Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège and Opera Philadelphia, A Chair in Love in Montreal, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Royal Opera House in Muscat, I Pagliacci and Il tabarro at the Korean National Opera in Seoul, Hänsel und Gretel, The Cunning Little Vixen, Falstaff, Don Giovanni and Tosca at Opera Zuid in Maastricht, Albert Herring at Opera North, La bohème, Falstaff and The Life & Death of Alexander Litvinenko at Grange Park Opera and Sarrasine at the International Handel Festival in Göttingen. Ballets have included: Dracula for the Northern Ballet Theatre, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Julia, The Nutcracker, Snow White, Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals for Kyiv Classic Ballet. Future plans include returning to Genoa forTristan und Isolde and San Francisco for Elektra.
