The South Korean bass Simon Lim is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he sang Philip II in two revivals of Don Carlos and enjoyed great success as Cardinal Brongni in last season's new production of Halévy's La Juive, to sing the King of Egypt in Aida, which is followed next April by Oroveso in Norma. Other engagements this season include Zaccaria (Nabucco) at Canadian Opera and Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino) at La Scala Milan. This South Korean bass studied at Yeungnam University in Gyeongsan before joining the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he made his debut singing Rinuccio in Gianni Gschicchi, which was followed by the title role in Le nozze di Figaro. Recent engagements have taken him to Verona, Oviedo, Bilbao, Amsterdam, Paris, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv and Glyndebourne. His repertoire includes Mustafa (L'italiana in Algeri), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Tom (Un ballo in maschera) and Timur (Turandot). Recent highlights have included the King of Egypt in Aida at the Arena di Verona, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Procida (Les vêpres siciliennes) at La Scala Milan and Samuel / Graf Ribbing in Un ballo in maschera at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He also sang President Wu Virtu in the world premiere of Mohammed Fairouz' The New Prince in Amsterdam. He won 3rd prize at Plácido Domingo's 2010 »Operalia, the World Opera Competition«.
