Liviu Holender joined Oper Frankfurt's ensemble in 2019/20, making his debut as Leone in a new Tamerlano in the Bockenheimer Depot. Last season roles included Marullo (Rigoletto), the Count of Lusignan in the first ever performances in Frankfurt of Reimann's Melusine and Faninal (role debut) in Der Rosenkavalier. During the 2025/26 season you can hear him as Don Alfonso, Choregos / Jack Ketch & Ping in new productions of Così fan tutte, Birtwistle's Punch & Judy and Puccini'sTurandot. Other recent toles for the company included his first Malatestas and Hans in new productions of Donizetti's Don Pasquale and Zemlinsky's George the Dreamer, Moaralés / Dancaïro in Carmen, the Helmsman (Tristan und Isolde), Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Marullo (Rigoletto), Henrik (Nielsen's Maskerade), Marco (Gianni Schicchi ), his first Oliviers in Strauss Capriccio, Peter (the Father, in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel), Der Graf (Schreker's Der ferne Klang / Elusive Sound (get the CD!) and Sharpless (Madama Butterfly). Guest engagements included Ottokar in Bregenz (2024 & 2025), Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus) and Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Maggio Musicale in Florence, Silvano (Un ballo in maschera) at La Scala Milan, the Herald (Lohengrin) at the Tokyo Spring Festival, Donner (Rheingold) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Marcello in La Bohème at Croatian National Opera in Zagreb and Silvio (Pagliacci) at the National Opera in Bucharest. He was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich for two years, singing roles including Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Schaunard (La Bohème) and Hans Scholl in Zimmermann's The White Rose. He also enjoys a busy career as a recitalist, appearing at places including the Philharmonie de Paris and Schubertiade in Hohenems, and oratorio singer, appearing with conductors including Marek Janowski, Daniele Gatti and Franz Welser-Möst in works such as the Brahms Requiem and as Jseus in the St. Matthew Passion. He gave a wonderful recital of works by Jewish composers, whose works were deemed degenerate art; by the Nazis, in the Holzfoyer in 2024.
