The Austrian / New Zealand bass Anthony Robin Schneider is back in Frankfurt, where he made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2018/19 as the Landlord in Schreker's Der ferne Klang / The Elusive Sound (available on CD - OehmsClassics), to repeat his wonderful portrayal of the title role in this Kosky production of Hercules and sing the Pope in Shostakovitch's Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk. He joined the Ensemble in 2019/20, adding 4 roles to his repertoire in 2021/22: Ibn-Hakia in Iolanta, Panas in a new production of Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve - »Performance of the Year« (Opernwelt magazine 2021/22 - get the DVD!), Heinrich der Vogler in Lohengrin and Cirillo in Giordano's Fedora. Other roles while a member of the ensemble included 2nd Armed Man and Hans Schwarz in new productions of Die Zauberflöte and Die Meistersinger, Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), an Administrator / Sargeant (Lady Macbeth von Mzensk), a Monk / Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo), Sparafucile (Rigoletto) and he gave a wonderful recital in the Holzfoyer. He trained at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and started his career as a member of Houston Grand Opera's opera studio, where he returned in 2022 for Sarastro / Speaker (Die Zauberflöte). During the 2022/23 season he sang Fafner (Das Rheingold) at the Staatstheater in Braunschweig and the Tirol Festival in Erl. He went to the National Opera in Amsterdam in the winter of 2023, where he sang Heinrich den Vogler in Christof Loy's new production of Lohengrin and Sarastro in a production directed by Simon McBurney. Last season he took part in concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden and in Berlin, where he sang Orest's Minder in Elektra. He returned to the Tirol Festival in Erl in the summer of 2024 to sing Fafner and Hunding in two cycles of Brigitte Fassbaender's wonderful Ring. During 2025 he sings his first Verdi Requiem, in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Doctor in Wozzeck at the Canadian Opera Company.
