The British soprano Louise Alder looks back on her time with Oper Frankfurt as the ideal start for her international career. Now she's back in Frankfurt, where she was a popular member of the Ensemble from 2014 - 2019, during which time roles included Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Musetta (La bohème), Atalanta (Xerxes), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare in Egitto) and the title role in a new production of The Cunning Little Vixen, for her second recital, she jumped in at very short notice for the first! Guest engagements have included appearances at the Vienna State Opera, the Theater an der Wien, Zurich Opera, Covent Garden and English National Opera in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid and Glyndebourne. She was the Wigmore Hall's 2023/2024 Artist in Residence. This season she sings three new roles for the first time:Micaëla in Carmen at San Francisco Opera, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Vienna State Opera and Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro at Glyndebourne. She made her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich as Gretel(Hänsel und Gretel), which was followed by Marzelline (Fidelio), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte). Last year she thrilled audiences with roles including Cleopatra in Glyndebourne and with a recital of Lieder by Brahms at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg. She studied at the University of Edinburgh, won the Royal College of Music in London's first Kiri te Kanawa scholarship, the first Young British Soloists Competition (2015), the International Opera Awards' 2017 Young Singers Award and the Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at the Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
