Jaeil Kim, a member of Oper Frankfurt's Opera Studio from 2017 - 2019, made his debut with the company singing Thibault in Les vêpres siciliennes, which was followed by roles including Eurymachos in Dallapiccola's Ulisse (»Rediscovery of the Year« - 2022 International Opera Awards), Remendado (Carmen), a Dancing Master (Manon Lescaut), 3rd Jew (Salome) and Rodrigo (Otello). Now he's back to sing Oleander in this new production of Aribert Reimann's Melusine in the Bockenheimer Depot. Roles in his home town of Seoul included Alfredo (La traviata) and Count Almaviva (l barbiere di Siviglia). Other engagements in recent seasons have included Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at Castle Rheinsberg Chamber Opera, Roberto (Maria Stuarda) at Theater Freiberg, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) in the Munot Opera Festival in Schaffhausen and the Broom Maker (Königskinder) at the Tirol Festival in Erl. He joined the ensemble at the Landestheater in Coburg in 2022/23, since when roles have included Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Tamino, Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Count Almaviva, Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), the Helmsman (Flying Dutchman), Mister X (Circus Princess), Camille (The Merry Widow), Malcolm (Macbeth) and Gwidon (The Golden Cockerel). Concert repertoire includes Bach's St. Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Handel's Messiah, Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine, Scarlatti's Stabat Mater, Haydn's Theresienmesse, Rossini's Petite messe solennelle, Honegger's Le Roi David, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Martin's Golgotha. He studied acting at the National High School of Traditional Korean Arts before training as a singer at the Hanyang University in Seoul and University for Music and Theatre in Munich, where he gained his masters in 2017.
