Katharina Magiera

Katharina Magiera, who studied in Frankfurt with Hedwig Fassbender, has been a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2009/10. Her roles during the 2025/26 season include Disinganno in a new production of Handel's The Triumph of Time and Truth and Auntie and Lisa in revivals of Peter Grimes and Weinberg's The (female) Passenger. Last season she sang the Mother, Bradamante and a Flowermaiden in new productions of Berg's Lulu, Handel's Alcina and Wagner's Parsifal, Maddalena in Rigoletto and the Narrator / St. Katherine in a Debussy / Honegger La Damoiselle élue / Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher double bill. The previous season she enjoyed great success with Marcellina in a new Le nozze di Figaro, Gaea (role debut) in the last revival of our wonderful production of Struass' Daphne and repeated her portrayal of Nancy in Flotow's Martha (get the CD! OehmsClassics). Roles the previous season included 3rd Lady and a Maid in new productions of Die Zauberflöte and Elektra, Hänsel and Amastre in Xerxes. Recent guest engagements included Herodias' Page (Salome) & 3rd Lady at the Opéra National de Paris, Schwertleite (Die Walküre) at the Semperoper in Dresden and the Witch (Humperdinck's Königskinder), a Rhinemaiden and Waltraute (role debut) at the Tirol Summer Festival in Erl. Other roles in recent seasons in Frankfurt included Jokaste (role debut) in Oedipus Rex, Circe / Melantho in our »Rediscovery of the Year 2020« (Opernwelt) production of Dallapiccola's Ulisse, Frugola (Il Tabarro) & Ciesa (Gianni Schicchi), Eduige (Rodelinda, which she sang again in 2024/25), Emilia (Verdi's Otello) and the Sphinx in Enescu's Oedipe. Her repertoire includes Ježibaba (Rusalka), Margret (Wozzeck - get the CD!), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Teresa (La sonnambula), and Wanja (Glinka's Iwan Sussanin). She has appeared in Frankfurt in recital (Goethe - get the CD!). Other guest engagements included her debut with the Chœur and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Krzysztof Urbański and appearances at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Theater an der Wien, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Semperoper in Dresden, Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, and the Beijing Music and Salzburg Easter festivals, with conductors including Christian Thielemann, Adam Fischer and Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
