The Icelandic tenor Sven Hjörleifsson is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt this evening, stepping in at very short notice to sing Leonard (from the side of the stage), in Nielsen's Masquerade. He joined the ensemble at the Landestheater in Linz in 2011/12, after singing Ferrando there in Così fan tutte, where roles have included Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Tamino, Don Ottavio, Remendado (Carmen), Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Boni (Die Csárdásfürstin) and Sigismund (Im weißen Rößl). He moved to Oper Leipzig in 2017, where he has sung Tamino, Wenzel (The Bartered Bride), Veit (Undine), the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Narraboth (Salome), Cassio (Otello), Pong (Turandot), Helmsman (The Flying Dutchman), Froh (Rheingold)  and Bob Boles (Peter Grimes), amongst others, and Alfred (Fledermaus) at the Musical Comedy theatre. Other engagements have taken him to venues including the Konzerthaus (Narrator in Robert Schumann's Paradies und die Peri) and Musikverein (Schubert's Mass in F) in Vienna, the Landestheater Voralberg (Pedrillo) & Den Jyske Opera (Belmonte) and the Semperoper in Dresden (Young Servant in Elektra). He also sang a Squire in the world premiere of Bernard Lang's Mondparsifal ALPHA 1-8 at 2017 Festwochen in Vienna and Berlin's Festtagen. Other world premieres in which he took part were Bruno Strobl's Hemma at the Carinthische Summer Festival and Moritz Eggert's Terra Nova at the Landestheater in Linz. Sven Hjörleifsson studied in Reykjavík and the University for Music & the Performing Arts in Vienna. He made his operatic debut in 2008, singing Ferrando while a member of Iceland State Opera's Opera Studio.
