Hans-Jürgen Lazar is back at Oper Frankfurt to sing Ulrich Eisslinger in this new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürenberg (a role he sang in the last Frankfurt production of the work directed by Christof Nel). Recent roles included Goro in a new Madama Butterfly, appearances in a new production of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, the Doge (Rossini's Otello), Graf von Lerma (Don Carlo), Monsieur Taupe (Capriccio), A Dubious Character (Schreker's Der ferne Klang / The Distant Sound - available on CD - OehmsClassics), The 60+ Man (world premiere of Eötvös’ Der goldene Drache / The Golden Dragon), which he also sang at the 2015 Bregenz Festival and Red Whiskers (Billy Budd). This season he can be heard as Goro in a new production of Madama Butterfly. This tenor first joined the company in 1991, returning in 1996 after periods spent as a member of the companies in Hagen and Essen. He has also sung Danieli (Les Vêpres siciliennes), 3rd SS Man (Weinberg's Die Passagierin / The (female) Passenger). A Waiter (Der Rosenkavalier), Tinca (Il trittico), Vítek (Die Sache Makropulos / The Makropoulos Case), Mime (Das Rheingold, available on CD & DVD - OehmsClassics), Theophilus (Pfitzner's Palestrina, conducted by Kirill Petrenko, available on CD - OehmsClassics), the Gouverneur (Hartmann's Simplicius Simplicissimus), Bomelius (Die Zarenbraut / The Tsar's Bride), Ägisth (Elektra), Mucius in the world premiere of Glanert's Caligula (available on CD - OehmsClassics), Torquemada (Die spanische Stunde / L'Heure espagnol) and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte).   Guest engagements have included appearances at the Hamburg State Opera, the Volksoper in Vienna, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals.
