The South Korean mezzo-soprano Hyemi Rusch-Jung graduated from the University for Music in Mainz with distinction with the help of Prof. Thomas Dewald. She sang  2nd Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and La Badessa (Suor Angelica) in Bergamo, Nutrice in Alessandro Scarlatti's La Giuditta and the contralto role in the world premiere of Søren Nils Eichberg's opera Schönerland at Hessen's Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. She was a member of the Staatstheater in Mainz's Young Ensemble in 2017/18. Other engagements have included Baba the Turk (The Rake’s Progress) at Theater Rudolstadt, Missmut in the first performances in Germany of Rued Langgaard's opera Antikrist at the Staatstheater in Mainz and Princess Linetta (The Love for Three Oranges) at Theater Koblenz. She won the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz's 2021 up and coming young singer prize, sang Siegrune (Die Walküre) at Hessen's Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, returning for the 1st Maid in Elektra in 2022, Mercédès (Carmen) at Saarländ's Staatstheater, Urbain (Les Huguenots) at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim. She also sang Laertes in the world premiere of Sarah Nemtsov's Ophelia at Saarländ's Staatstheater. She joined Oper Frankfurt's Chorus this season, during which you can hear her singing Cicinella in this new production of Offenbach's The Bandits.
