Lukas Plag was born in Weimar and started learning the cello in 2008 with Benjamin Jupé before continuing his training with Prof. Wolfang E. Schmidt. He started studying for his bachelors in 2014 with Prof. Peter Bruns in Leipzig and then went to work with Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang in Munich for his masters. He gained further invaluable experience with Daniel Müller-Schott, Prof. Jens-Peter Maintz, Alban Gerhardt  and Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher. National and international successes (including 1st prize at the 2022 Gustav Mahler Competition) and projects including Kronberg masterclasses enriched his studies. After playing in concerts with orchestras including the Baden-Baden Philharmonie, the  Nord Deutsche Philharmonie in Rostock and Philharmonie Zuidnederland he enjoyed success as a soloist and taking part in radio recordings (BBC Radio). He joined the Frankfurt Opern und Museumsorchesters this season for a try out year as a deputy solo cellist. He won scholarships from the Vera Ritter and Dr. Arthur Pfungst foundations and has been receiving support from the Landesstiftung Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz since 2022/23.
