Stef van Herten, born in Herten, the Netherlands, has been a member of the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester since 2011. He studied the trumpet before taking up the horn. He graduated from the University for Music in Maastricht, where he studied with Willy Bessems, Prof. Will Sanders and Prof. Erich Penzel and gained invaluable experience taking part in masterclasses held by people including Marie-Luise Neunecker, Wolfgang Gaag, Peter Damm, Cristian Lampert, Markus Maskuniity, Dale Clavenger and Jacob Slachter. Stef van Herten was a member of the Dutch National and Gustav Mahler youth orchestras. He started working in Germany with the Münster Sinfonieorchester, the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchester and Krefeld, Mönchengladbach Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra from 2007 - 2010, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in 2009, and Nürnberg Philharmonic 2010-2011. He appears regularly with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Musica Aeterna St. Petersburg, the Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, the hr(Hessen Radio)-Sinfonieorchester, the SWR(Sudwestfunk) Symphony Orchester and Staatskapelle Dresden under conductors including Lorin Maazel, Zubin Metha, Christian Thielemann, Herbert Blomstedt, Jaap van Zweden, Teodor Currentzis, Daniele Gatti, Ivan Fischer and Fabio Luisi. Stef van Herten has been teaching at the University for Music in Mainz since 2015.
