Roland Kluttig took up the post of Chief Conductor of the Graz Philharmonic and Oper Graz in 2020/21 after spending ten years as General Music Director in Coburg, where productions of Wager operas drew him international acclaim. Forthcoming engagements include appearances with the Tapiola Sinfonietta in Finland, the Niedersachsen and Brandenburg state orchestras and Jena Philharmonic. In recent seasons he enjoyed great success with Dukas‘ Ariane et Barbe-Bleu and Szymanowski's Król Roger at Oper Graz and he is a regular guest at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart, where he conducted Salome in 2015 and Le nozze di Figaro in 2019. He made his debut at Oper Frankfurt with a new production of Weber's Euryanthe, conducted Korngold's Die tote Stadt at the Hamburg State Opera, Die Liebe zu drei Orangen / The Love for Three Oranges at Oper Leipzig and appeared at the opera houses in Strasbourg, Nice and Bern. With a repertoire ranging from Rameau to Lachenmann he works regularly with orchestras including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Leipzig radio orchestras, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Philharmonia Orchestra London and the Seoul Philharmonic. His discography includes the first live recording of Schönberg's Moses und Aron with the Staatsoper in Stuttgart and works by Erwin Schulhoff with the Deutsche Sinfonieorchester Berlin. Roland Kluttig studied at Dresden Music University and was awarded scholarships by the Deutsche Musikrats' Dirigentenforum, Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Herbert von Karajan Foundation. He received great encouragement while working with conductors including Peter Eötvös and John Eliot Gardiner. He began his career as Music Director of the Chamber Music Ensemble for Modern Music in Berlin. He appeared with them, Klangforum Vienna, the London Sinfonietta, ASKO Amsterdam and Collegium Novum Zürich at many leading European festivals.
