Since making his conducting debut at Oper Frankfurt in with Manon Lescaut in 2019/20 Takeshi Moriuchi has conducted new productions of Fortner's Dom Perlimplín's Love for Belisa in his Garden, Martin's Le vin herbé and Henze's The Prince of Homburg, and performances of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Hänsel und Gretel (which he also conducted at Hessen's State Theatre in Wiesbaden), Die Zauberflöte, Magnard's Guercœur, Handel's Tamerlano, Adam's Le Postillon du Lonjumeau, Tosca and Carmen. This season he conducts further performances of Cosí fan tutte and Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve (get the DVD!) . He joined the company as head of coaching in 2018/19. Born in Tokyo, he studied the piano before joining the Mozarteum University in Salzburg to concentrate on conducting. His mentor, Dennis Russell Davis, engaged him in 2009/10 for the Landestheater in Linz, where he worked as a coach before being made a Kapellmeister and artistic director of the Opera Studio. He conducted roughly 250 performances of new productions and revivals there. Other recent guest engagements have taken Takeshi Moriuchi to the Landestheater in Passau. He made his debut in his home country in 2016, with Le nozze di Figaro for the Nikikai Opera Foundation with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. A year later he assisted Sebastian Weigle there on a very successful production of Der Rosenkavalier. This was followed by a concert performance of I puritani in September 2019 in Japan. He appeared here in recital with Elena Villalón in the Holzfoyer and conducted a concert in Tokyo with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in March 2024.
