Victorien Vanoosten

The conductor and pianist Victorien Vanoosten was appointed artistic director of the Ensemble Symphonique de Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 2019. He recently conducted operas including Carmen  and Gounod's La Reine de Saba at the Opéra de Marseille, Les Pêcheurs de perles at the Staatsoper in Berlin and Opéra national du Capitole in Toulouse and Rossini''s Le Comte Ory and Edward Clug's ballet Peer Gynt at Zurich Opera. Recent concert work has taken him to the Musikverein in Vienna with the Tonkünstler Orchester. Other engagements have included concerts with the Brussels Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de l’Île-de-France and the Lituanian State Philharmonic Orchestra. He enjoys a close relationahip with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, with whom he conducted various European world premieres and first performances of existing works, working with soloists including Olga Peretyatko, Sabine Devieilhe, Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Karine Deshayes, Marianne Crebassa, Rolando Villazón and Michael Volle. He worked assisting General Music Director Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden during the 2018/19 season after studying piano with Michel Béroff at the Conservatoire in Paris and conducting in Paris and Helsinki. Recent solo work has included Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major and his first solo CD, with his own transcriptions of orchestral works by Debussy, Stravinsky, Duruflé, Saint-Saëns and Ravel was released in 2015.
