Titus Engel is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut with Telemann’s Orpheus, returning to conduct Salome and new productions of Nielsen’s Masquerade and Mozart’s Betulia liberata, for this new production of Aribert Reimann’s L’invisible, which is followed by a revival of our Debussy / Honegger La damoiselle élue / Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher double bill. This Swiss musician recently enjoyed great success with the world premiere of Michael Wertmüller’s Echo 72. Israel in Munich at the Staatsoper in Hannover and Henze’s Raft of Medusa at the Komische Oper Berlin. At the Staatsoper in Stuttgart, where he is a regular guest, he recently led a new production of Messiaen‘s Saint François d’Assise, which took place all over the city and was voted »Most Unusual Operatic Experience of 2023« by Opernwelt magazine. He made his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 2021/22 with Lehar’s Giduitta and Haas’ Bluthaus. Although much in demand for contemporary and 19th & 20th century music Titus Engel is passionate about baroque works and early performing practices. He and the director Lydia Steier presented Stockhausen‘s Thursday (of Light) at Theater Basel in 2016, which was voted »Performance of the Year« by Opernwelt, who voted him »2020 Conductor of the Year«. Other engagments have taken him to places including the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Berlin and Hamburg state operas, the Theater an der Wien and Vienna Konzerthaus, the Komische Oper Berlin, Opera Vlaanderen, the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Ruhrtriennale, Berlin, Salzburg and Lucerne festivals and the Musiktage in Donaueschingen. Titus Engel took up the post of Principal Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta in 2023/24, with whom he has performed at the Ruhrtriennale and Warsaw Autumn Festival, amongst others.
