The conductor and pianist Michael Wendeberg’s large and varied repertoire ranges from early to the very latest modern music. He was appointed 1st Kapellmeister of Bühnen Halle in 2016 before being made Chief Conductor two seasons ago. He also works regularly with other leading orchestras and ensembles including the Staatskapelle Berlin, the WDR Sinfonieorchester, SWR Sinfonieorchester, Berlin Radio Sinfonieorchester, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Slovenian Philharmonie, Klangforum Wien, the Remix Ensemble Porto, Ensemble intercontemporain, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Sinfonietta Basel and the Ensemble Modern. He has also appeared at the Lucerne Festival, the Munich Biennale, Beethovenfest Bonn, the Bregenz Festival, Venice Biennale, Stuttgart’s ECLAT Festival, Berlin’s Ultraschall Festival, Cologne’s Festival Acht Brücken, Klangspuren Schwaz and Vienna Modern. He was Directeur Musical of the Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva from 2011 – 2018. This season he conducted Debussy’s Jeux with the Tokyo Syphony Orchestra and the world premiere of Isabel Mundry’s viola concerto with Nils Mönkemeyer. He was also invited back to the National Estonian Symphony Orchestra in Tallin as part of the AFEKT Festival. Other concert work has taken him to Ankara, Bursa and Helsinki. He is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt with the world premiere of Blühen and a portrait workshop concert dedicated to Vito Žuraj as part of the Happy New Ears series, both in the Bockenheimer Depot.
