Hans Walter Richter
Director & Director's Assistant
Hans Walter Richter has directed Stravinsky's Die Geschichte vom Soldaten / A Soldier's Tale, the world premiere of Langemann's Anna Toll and this production of Menotti's The Medium, which has moved from the Bockenheimer depot to the main house to replace the corona struck new production of Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre. Recent productions have included Madama Butterfly at Theater Münster, Tosca at the Landestheater in Coburg and Stadttheater in Gießen, where he has also directed works including Così fan tutte, Holst's Savitri and Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix, which was nominated in the Die Deutsche Bühne magazine for »Best Production of 2015«. Future plans include Krieg. Stell dir vor, er wär hier / War. Imagine if he were here at the Stadttheater in Gießen and Die Walküre at Theater Münster. He joined the company in 2008, recently assisting, amongst others, Keith Warner, Vera Nemirova, Christof Loy, Jens-Daniel Herzog and Marco Arturo Marelli (world premiere of Reimann's Medea at the Vienna State Opera and rehearsed the work again for performances in Frankfurt). He also assisted Keith Warner on André Chénier at the 2011 Bregenz Festival. Other interesting productions at the Stadttheater in Gießen were the first performances in Germany of Jake Haggie's For a Look or a Touch, Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor / The Theatre Director and Bastien und Bastienne, Grigori Frid's Briefe des van Gogh / Van Gogh's Letters, Peter Maxwell Davies' Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot / Eight Songs for a Mad King and Michael Nyman's Der Mann, der seine Frau mit einem Hut verwechselte / The Man who mistook his Wife for a Hat.
