Pia Maria Mackert has been working as a set and costume designer for plays and operas at theatres including the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, Vienna Akademietheater, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Staatschauspiel in Dresden, the Darmstadt, Hannover und Karlsruhe state theatres, the theatres in Freiburg, Wuppertal and Bonn, the Schauspielhaus in Dusseldorf, Nationaltheater in Mannheim and Theater Dortmund since 1993. She was nominated for a German DER FAUST theatre prize. She designed the set for the first Axel Springer Award for digital journalism (winner: Marc Zuckerberg) in February 2016
