Andreas Grüter, head of the lighting department at Cologne Opera since 2010, made his debut at Oper Frankfurt with this production of Rusalka. He has lit many productions in Cologne, where he will be working on new productions of Salome, Peter Grimes, Street Scene and Die Großherzogin von Gerolstein this season. He is currently at the Opéra National in Paris, working on Andreas Kriegenburg's new production of Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots. Last season he was lighting designer on Lydia Steier's new production of The Rake’s Progress at Theater Basel. While Willy Decker was Intendant of the Ruhrtriennale he lit his productions of Moses und Aron, Tristan und Isolde, Le vin herbé and Leila und Madschnun. Other important projects have included Elektra and Moses und Aron at the Vienna State Opera, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Bayreuth, Lucrezia Borgia at the Opéra de Marseille, Eugene Onegin at Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, Die verkaufte Braut / The Bartered Bride at the Volksoper in Vienna, Idomeneo at the Theater an der Wien, Tannhäuser at the Teatro Perez Galdos Las Palmas and Der Ring des Nibelungen for the 2008 Wagner-Tagen in Budapest.
