David Roger

Set Designer

David Roger began working with the director David Freeman in the 1970s, for Opera Factory in Zurich and London. Their productions included Le Grand Macabre, Mozart's Da Ponte operns, Gluck's Iphigenie auf Tauris, Handel's Theodora and works by Birtwistle and Xenakis. He was stage designer for the first performances in England of Philip Glass' Akhnaten and Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria for English National Opera in London, and La Bohème at Opera North. He and David Freeman also staged The Firey Angel - a co-production between the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and Marinskij Theatre. He also designed Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Aida and Carmen in the Royal Albert Hall. David Roger has also provided scenery for plays and ballets, including productions at the Royal Court Theatre and Soho Theatre in London and for the Royal Ballet and has worked for television.
