The Greek soprano Penny Sofroniadou is making her debut at Oper Frankfurt, singing Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. She has been a member of the Ensemble at Theater Hagen since 2020, where roles have included Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Silvia (L’isola disabitata), Raka (Die Blume von Hawaii), Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zeitel (Anatevka) and a Flower Maiden (Parsifal). This season she sang Hanna Glawari (Die lustige Witwe / The Merry Widow) at Theater Dortmund and Nannetta (Falstaff) at the Komische Oper Berlin, where she joins the ensemble next season. She studied at the Makedonien University in Thessaloniki, Würzburg University for Music and the University for Music and Dance in Cologne. After making her debut as Concepcion (L’heure espagnole) in a Cologne University production at Theater Aachen production in 2016 she was granted a scholarship by the Theaterinitiative Aachen for the 2016/17 season. She was a member of Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach’s Opera Studio from 2017-2019,  joined the NRW’s new Opera Studio in 2019/20 and made her debuts as Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at Oper Dortmund, at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen as a Dresser (Der Rosenkavalier) and the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen as Angelica (Orlando Paladino). She has also appeared at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, singing Mascha / Prilepa in Pique Dame and won many prizes, including the WDR-Funkhausorchester’s Orchestra Prize, the 2017 Internatio¬nal Music Competition in Cologne and the 2018 Deutsche Oper, Staatsoper & Komische Oper Berlin prize at the National Singing Competition in Berlin.
